Until the 1970s letterpress was used
for all sorts of
documents;
books, pamphlets, posters and stationery. Although for everyday
work it has been
largely
superseded,
today in skilled hands it still produces the very finest
work. Each
font of type is stored in its own tray, divided into individual
compartments for letters and symbols. Capital and small
letters were traditionally held in separate trays, each put in its own
place on the sloping lids of the type cabinet giving rise to the terms
"upper" and "lower" case letters that are still used today. . |

At Libre Livre we have a large collection of types, both wood and
metal, some of which
date from the early 20th century. We are still sorting and
cataloguing our type, but
interested customers can click to see our Font
Database All our type is stored in wooden type trays, of which we have some 350, holding an estimated half million individual pieces of type. |

Many customers like to include picture
"blocks"of which
we hold a fine selection, in their stationery: others prefer a look of
sleek simplicity. Our prices for personal stationery are highly competitive, starting at just £100 for 500 sheets of headed writing. The price for any stationery order has to be individually calculated as it depends on a number of factors, including the size of order, selection of paper and design. Contact us to discuss your requirements. |
